All employers must ensure the safety and health of their employees under the Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Regulations 1992. In the UK there are over 10 million office workers, making DSE the most common form of working equipment – including monitors, PDAs, tablets and touchscreen phones. Whilst serious injury and health problems connected to DSE are rare (over 80% of those who have symptoms do not take time off work), they do account for a large number of musculoskeletal disorders such as aches and pains and repetitive strain injuries (RSI).
498,000 UK workers are suffering
from work-relatedmusculoskeletaldisorders (new or longstanding) in 2018/19, which resulted in 6.9 million lost working days.
